BIG WIN FOR VEGAS AND A SHUTOUT FOR FLEURY AGAINST THE SABRES

The Golden Knights headed to Buffalo to take on Jack Eichel and the Sabres at home. Sabres new goalie Mike Smith was in net for the first time facing Vegas with his new team after defeating the Golden Knights in 5 games in the playoffs last season with the Calgary Flames where he was sensational in that series against Vegas.

Just 20 second into the game William Karlsson scored from Miller and Marchessault to make it 1-0 Vegas. At 6:09 of the period Pacioretty made it 2-0 Vegas. Shortly after Alex Tuch was hammered hard along the boards and had to leave the game. At 8:02 Reilly Smith scored from Glass and Fast to make it 3-0 Golden Knights. At 16:08 Marchessault scored and it was 4-0 Vegas as the first period came to a close in a very quiet building.

At 14:44 of the second period Karlsson scored his second of the game from Brannstrom and Pacioretty and Vegas had a 5-0 lead. Mike Smith was pulled and Carter Hutton was brought in as the back-up goalie. At 19:41 Jesper Fast scored to make it 6-0 Vegas and some fans were seen leaving the arena.

At 4:25 of the third period Karlsson completed the hat trick when he beat Hutton glove side and made it 7-0 Golden Knights. More fans started to leave the quiet arena and some boos could be heard. There was no further scoring as Marc Andre Fleury picked up his first shutout of the season on the 7-0 victory as the Sabres were shutout including Jack Eichel.

After the game the Vegas medical staff announced that Alex Tuch would miss 3 weeks with a groin injury suffered in the game. Jean-Gabriel Pageau would be taking over for Tuch on the second line.
