GOLDEN KNIGHTS WIN AT HOME AGAINST THE HURRICANES

October 22, 2020

The Golden Knights returned home to Vegas to take on the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes with their new acquisitions of goalie Brian Elliot and Chris Krijder were ready to go as the puck was about to drop at T-Mobile.

At 2:07 of the first period Martin Necas scored from Faulk and Victor Rask to make it 1-0 Hurricanes. Just 40 second later Alex Tuch scored from Brannstrom and Smith to tie the game up at 1-1. Just 2 minutes later Chris Krijder was absolutely hammered behind the Vegas net and went down and the play was stopped as Krijder had to be helped off the ice by the trainer and would not return to this game.

At 19:19 of the second period Alex Tuch scored his second of the game from Haula and McNabb and Vegas had a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

Early in the third period Jon Merrill blocked a hard slapshot from the point and skated off gingerly to the bench and the dressing room and he would not return after blocking that shot. With just 4 minutes remaining in the game Paul Stastny scored to make it 3-1 Vegas. The Hurricanes pulled Elliot late in the game looking for 2 goals but they could not score and the Golden Knights won the game by a score of 3-1.

After the game the Hurricanes medical staff announced that Krijder would be out for a week with a bruised hip. From the Vegas medical staff it was disclosed that Merrill had a hairline fracture and would miss 3 weeks with the injury. Zach Whitecloud would be taking over for Merrill on defense.
